Yanco Associates serves the utility industry and promotes the development of the Smart Grid. We complete both small projects and large complex projects using experienced, knowledgeable personnel for management consulting, project management, management mentoring, IT project design and support, T&D design and support, and various other assignments. We work as a team with our clients to complete the required engagement on schedule and within budget. Yanco Associates was founded in 1993, and has worked as a separate entity or in consortia for utilities and energy companies in the United States and abroad.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide strategic, economic, business, and technical consulting services that offer value, insight, and expertise to our worldwide clients.  We are a knowledge-based firm with a reputation for delivering superior business solutions through an integrated set of comprehensive services.  We recognize the strategic importance of improved customer service and lower operational costs in today's competitive utility environment.  As utilities deploy various advanced technologies, we have responded by developing a complete set of services to assist with the application and integration of these information and automation technologies to support a smarter grid.

Company Profile

Our clients include large and small municipals, cooperatives, investor-owned utilities, engineering firms, research organizations, and software product suppliers. Our core focus has been on the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of utility assets and the systems that support the business processes. These systems include Advanced Metering Infrastructure, Meter Data Management Systems, Work Management Systems (including Transmission WMS), Outage Management Systems, Geographic Information Systems, Field Workforce Automation/Mobile Dispatch Systems, SCADA/EMS, and Asset Management Systems. We are comfortable with and knowledgeable in all of these systems.

Yanco Associates is organized as an open consulting practice, which is able to draw on and field utility experienced consultants for the various projects we undertake. Yanco Associates has established relations with a core group of independent consultants that we have used on many assignments, according to the nature of the work and the individual’s experience and skills. These additional resources are brought on as contractors or contract employees as required based on the nature and duration of the engagement. The two full-time, permanent employees—the two principals—function as the project leads and “general contractor” for an assignment.

The advantage of this approach for a utility is three-fold. The consultants we use have the experience and skills required for the work and hit the ground running—there is no need to train the recent college graduate as to the business principals and requirements. Secondly, the consultants we bring to the job are seasoned utility project veterans and understand the deliverables that a utility needs to develop a plan and gain approval of the plan from upper management and regulatory bodies; we provide such deliverables. And finally, this arrangement allows us to offer a great deal of value for the price we charge as we do not have to carry payroll that must be spread over jobs to cover the non-billable periods.

Yanco Associates is jointly owned by its two principals, Dick Yanco and Ron Jarvis, and operates out of two main offices.
